Crushed By Tree
In the midst of pouring rain one of the two large pepper trees guarding the entrance to the Bank of New South Wales snapped off at the roots and crushed a 1964 model Vauxhall belonging to Mr A. G. Smith, Another car, a late model Zephyr, was also damaged by a limb of the tree. The accident occurred during the removal of a concrete and iron fence surrounding the bank. It would appear that the fence alone was keeping the tree upright for an inspection of it showed the centre to be rotten. As a safety measure the second tree was also removed.
