Another Title For Neil Stuart

It was hoped that Charlie Bensemann in his aero-engine-powered Stanton Special would have given Neil Stuart and his powerful V-8 Special some competition, but Charlie lost two of his lower gears and had to be content with racing in top throughout. Stuart, , therefore, was not troubled to retain his South Island beach racing title at the back beach at Tahuna over Queen's Birthday weekend. Giff Tait and his souped-up Chewy coupe was a good second. Once again the organisers had to contend with a very wet track after rain, but for the racing it dried out well, leaving only a few big puddles just past the starting line.

"Brew-ups" were frequent as the radiators became clogged with sand. Here, Bob Stuart stands back as his car hisses steam.

For the saloon cars windscreens had to be washed after every race.
