A party from the Dominion Museum visited Nelson in December on a botanical collecting and recording expedition. Norm Hill, caretaker at the reservoir, took them up to Third House. Here, they have just looked through Mr Harry Atmore's old whare where, it is said, Mr Atmore rehearsed his speeches in the early days of his long parliamentary career. The party, from left: Messrs S. North-cote-Bade, honorary curator of cultural history; Norm Hill; D. McCrenor, a visitor; F. O'Leary, photographer; B. Hamlin, botanist, and A. L. Sears, Ministry of Works.

The Atmore Memorial Shelter, built on the site of the Third House. To reach this spot visitors travel part of the way along the route taken by New Zealand's first railway to the copper mine on the Dun Mountain.
