Lions Raise £400 For Storybook Project

The newly-formed Lions Club in Nelson has wasted little time in proceeding with its first major project - the provision of a Storybook Land for children at Tahuna Beach. Initial funds for the project were no problem, From all over Nelson a variety of unwanted yet saleable objects flowed into the former I. G. A. warehouse, where a petticoat auction was held. Over £950 was taken at the auction but £450 of this was in reserves on some of the bigger items. After advertising expenses of £100 the club was left with £400 to commence its project. The auction was attended by hundreds of bargain-seekers who really got their money's worth.
