Then were the days! Park your car on whichever side of the road suited you, jaywalk diagonally across an intersection and a quarter of an hour on the street with shovel and brush and the roses were certain to thrive. That was Hardy Street (above) in the earlier part of the century and the same street today (below) taken from about the same spot.
