Bands Spectacular at Trafalgar Park

Trafalgar Park resounded to the skirl of pipes, the deep rhythm of brass bands and the rollicking harmony of the Kokatahi Harmonica Band during the annual Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast bands' festival. More than 2000 people were entertained by 17 bands, who had earlier marched from the Church Steps, along Trafalgar Street, to the park.

A welcome attraction was the Canterbury Caledonian Society's Ladies' Pipe Band. Until last October, the band was called the Christchurch Ladies' Pipe Band. All the girls looked smart in their Royal Stewart tartan uniforms. The Drum Major is Linda McLean and the Pipe Major, Noelene Keller
