Another Season Opens

With hardly a pause, winter sports gave way to summer ones, and the bowling fraternity were quick off the mark to open their season.

The first kitty of the season was sent down by Daisy Johnson"Where's that going?" Mrs J. Anicich, one of a Hope four, watches her shot go down the mat (wife of the centre president, Doug), and waiting to put that bowl beside the jack is Pat Wilkens (wife of the centre secretary, Karl)

Opening the season at the Coronation green were Mary Kain (bowling the Jack) and Vera Plum

The Nelson Bowling Centre executive, who will administer the sport this season: Tom Bradley (Riwaka), Tony Binns (Mapua), Alan Nimmo (Brightwater), Mick Krammer (Motueka, vice-president), Karl Wilkens (Maitai, secretary and dominion councillor), Doug Johnson (Nelson, president), Bert Hirst (Ngawhatu), Andy Hedwig (Nelson), Charlie Cowman (United), Arthur Parker (RSA) and George MacGregor (Richmond)

The official party at the Coronation opening comprised Stella Smith (centre president), Stan Whitehead, M.P., Trix Hambrook (Coronation president), Maude Freeman (centre patroness), Betty Snow (club secretary), Ella Burridge (Umpires' Assn) and Glad Elliott (Coronation club treasurer)
