Fun and Frivolity Polynesian Style
Action songs, poi dances, hakas and fine food were part and parcel of the Polynesian banquet organised by the Wakatu Culture Group, The banquet was arranged to raise funds to assist maintaining the traditions of Maori life in the Nelson area. Entertainment was provided by the Motueka Culture Group and if a Nelson group comparable to this fine entertaining force is assisted by the annual Polynesian Banquets, let's hope they continue.
The first section of the evening catered for the hungry - a wide assortment of food was on the menu; the second phase featured Maori songs and dances including some fine poi dancing with vivid effects of ultra-violet light highlighting the performances. The entertainment closed with a segment of Island songs and dances.
Group leader Kairau Ngahau enjoyed his role
Hmmm. As good as the North Island groups. Mrs K. Nathan, Whakatane, is a critical observer.
