Watersiders Win Road Race
Nelson watersiders, police and joggers competed last month for the king of the Stoke straight title, and again, the watersiders emerged triumphant. A big field set out from the freezing works to run the six miles to the Port, a grinding course, uphill all the way to Stoke. Some came in early, others like Pat Lister (LEFT), staggered in at the tail of the field. Pat was lucky, he got some assistance at the end from champion distance runner, Kathy McHugh. First three home were Glyn Newell (3rd), Alan Griffiths (1st) and Bruce Dellow (2nd). Alan just broke his best time figure, running the distance in 31min. 16sec.
