Mr Ken Rouse, Tutaki Valley, celebrated his 80th birthday recently, and his 50 years in the district, with a party. Here, with Mrs Rouse's assistance, he cuts his cake (below right). Also there were Shirley Blakemore, Hazel Borcovsky and Margaret Rouse, all Murchison (right), Kerry O'Connor, Max Fairweather and Reg Bennett (Murchison), below, and Mr Rouse's grand-daughter Anne, her brother John and friend Sue Badcock (bottom).

70TH BIRTHDAY
Mrs E. F. Charles, Murchison, recently celebrated her 70th birthday and used this Scottish sword to cut her birthday cake. At top left are Mrs Charles with her immediate family. In front, Ngaire Win (Reefton), Mrs E. F. Charles, Lola Bradley (Murchison). At back: Max (Harakeke), Keith (Motueka), and Allen Charles (Murchison). Among the guests were (left) Elaine Patterson, Ken Eggers (Murchison) and Beth Ezold (U.S.A.). Beth was in New Zealand under an overseas exchange scheme.
