Hockey... Roller v. Field

Several months ago, owing to the fact that there was no local competition for them, the Gisborne roller hockey team invited members of the Kiwi field hockey club to play them on the skating rink. They accepted, and so started a regular weekly game, which has become extremely popular with both field and roller players alike.

The games, which are played on a friendly basis, have proved to be of value to both teams, by livening up their stick-work and helping their positional play.

Both teams also have had recent successes; the roller hockey team defeated the N.Z. champions, Petone, to win the Queen's Birthday tournament, and the Kiwi hockey team are at present leading the field in the Poverty Bay senior competition.
