Honoured By The Queen

In the Queen's New Year honours list, three Gisborne-East Coast personalities were honoured.

Mr I. J. Quigley, chairman of the Harbour Board, who received the M.B.E. He has also been a Borough Councillor and has a lifetime association with the shipping industry.

Sister Joan Dickson, assistant matron of Cook Hospital, who received the A.R.R.C. (Associate Royal Red Cross). Sister Dickson spent three years in Egypt and Italy during the war and has maintained a strong Interest in the Army Nursing Service.

Mr D. W. W. Williams, chairman of the Waiapu County Council, who received the O.B.E. in last year's Birthday honours, was recently invested with his award at a ceremony at Government House. Mr Williams has given a lifetime of service to East Coast institutions.

Mr R. P. Milner, Ruatoria, who received the O.B.E., has worked among the Maori people all his life, and ranks as the tohunga of Maori land management on the East Coast.
