Go Kart Grand Prix
Main excitement at the Gisborne Go-Kart Club's holiday meeting at Patutahi was a "Grand Prix" race, which was won by M. McGarva. Drivers had to make three stops at the "pits", to inflatd tyres, take on petrol, and drink a Coke.

Scoring 185 runs in less than 100 minutes, the touring Fijian cricketers defeated the Poverty Bay reps. by six wickets after skipper Eric Fisher had made a sporting declaration at 242 for 9 in P.B.'s second innings.
Miss Kaye Wilson, Temple St. Gisborne, is the first representative of the Maori race to serve on the staff of Government House in Wellington.
