Shooting Between Showers

When Charles Donaldsen-Law, of Nelson, turned up at the Catholic Gala Day in Gisborne, complete with six-guns, he certainly showed his audience a thing or two about sharp shooting with revolvers.

A colourful character with a world reputation, who at one time spent two years as a trick horseman with the famous Don Cossacks, he used only split seconds to whip out firearms and perforate targets at 20ft range, or flying objects tossed in the air by his assistant.

The only flaw in the demonstration was provided by the weather. Every quarter-hour the heavens opened and everybody had to streak for shelter.

Mr Donaldsen-Law gave an interesting demonstration of skill in hitting moving objects such as ping-pong balls, plates, etc, (left).

This demonstration, however, told on the windows of the school building behind which the shooting took place. When it was over, many of the windows had holes in them.
