National Yachting Contest

The National 7-footer Yachting Championships held at Gisborne this month struck a variety of weather, most of it poor, but provided the young yachtsmen with plenty of experience in handling their small craft in the open water. The interprovincial Tanner Cup was won by Auckland's 13-year old Mark Paterson, who completed the "double" by also winning the inter-club Tauranga Cup.

Results in the Tanner Cup were: Auckland, 340.00 points, 1; Canterbury, 328.57, 2; Waikato, 231.34, 3. Poverty Bay finished in fifth place. In the Tauranga Cup: Kohimarama, (Auckland), 350.01, 1; Wanganui, 301.51, 2; Charteris Bay (Canterbury), 214.85, 3. Poverty Bay was 11th.
