The Mikado
Gllbert and Sullivan's much-played "Mikado" was the choice this year for the biennial stage show of the Gisborne High Schools presented in the Opera House.
It took on fresh charm in the hands of a youthful but competent cast. The mass numbers were noted for the volume and quality of the chorus work, and the general effect created by skilful make-up and lavish costumes was most pleasing.
Production was by Mr H. I. Smith, assisted by Mrs R. G. Neilson, who was also the pianist, and an orchestra largely made up of school players was conducted by the musical director, Mr C. Lidington.

The three girls above played the three leading feminine roles at alternate performances. The show was staged for three evening performances and two matinees. Besides the principals, there was a cast of 25 boys and 50 girls. The very attractive costuming which was such a feature of the show was in the capable hands of Mrs N. C. Parker.
