Please to Remember...

Guy Fawkes Day was celebrated in Gisborne with the customary flare of bonfires and crackle of fireworks. "Photo News", burning some rubbish in the back-yard for the benefit of the neighbourhood kids, unwittingly alarmed a neighbour who called out the fire brigade, but otherwise the firemen had a quiet night.

Biggest bonfire was at Mangapapa Park (above), where hundreds of children and their parents assembled to let off their fireworks. A merry-go-round added to the attractions.
