Young Hockey Players

The hockey season just ended has seen two major innovations. The first of these is the development of play for schoolgirls for the first time, with Mrs F. Poole and Hani Smiler as coaches. The local rep. team competed in the Napier-Wairoa-P.B. tournament at Wairoa recently and took top honours. The boys, coached by Len Roderick, travelled away to take part in a national tournament for the first time this season, to compete for the Hatch Cup at Nelson.

Mona Tupara is both the mascot and the comedienne of the team, and is giving the camera the raspberry in the team picture (opposite page), but on the field this tiny tot belies her size. She can really hit that ball!
