The annual football game between North and South Island Railways rugby teams was played this year at Gisborne. The teams were evenly matched, and there was no score at half time. In the second spell, North forged ahead to win by 17 points to 8. Picture shows a North Island winger starting a run which ended in a try.

Mr Charles Lunken, 8 Danbury St., Islington, London, who is a brother of Mr Frank Lunken, Gisborne, sends this picture of Mr and Mrs Jack Heeney of Gisborne, "who are on holiday in England and having a great time with us". Mr and Mrs Heeney are seated on either side of Mr Lunken.

Local streets will be looking brighter when the flowering shrubs being planted on footpaths grow to maturity. Here the Reserves Committee chairman, Mr G. J. Watts, watches as the city gardener M. Geenty (at right) & Frank Single stake a young shrub in Northcote Road. Shrubs are of the species Leucospermum Ceanothus and their height at maturity is eight feet.
