"White Horse Inn" was a Triumph

Before a full house the curtain closed for the last time on one of the Gisborne Operatic Society's most successful productions to date, the classic "White Horse Inn".

Aided by spectacular scenery and costuming, the able and well rehearsed cast gave nine performances before delighted Gisborne audiences.

As patron of the society, the mayor Mr Barker, complimented, among others, the producer Pat Woodford and chorus mistress Pat Fitzgerald.

A special tribute was paid to Will Keany, the only life member of the society, who, as Herr Grinkle, played the role of an underwear manufacturer. His presentation, appropriately enough, was underwear. Will displayed his newly acquired treasure for general approval.

An after-show party was an opportunity for the cast to relax after many months of hard rehearsal.

A number of impromptu floor shows was climaxed by Barney Treader's farcical interpretation of "Velia", famous love song from the Merry Widow. Barney's fantastic costume and incredible facial contortions produced emotions of amazement, even horror, which overflowed into riotous hilarity.
