New Building For Y.M.C.A.

This architect's perspective drawing shows the street frontage of the Y.M.C.A. as it will appear when the alterations and additions are made to the present building in Fitzherbert Street.

The ground floor will add a concert chamber and lounge to the present building, while the top floor will contain rooms catering for numerous activities and pastimes.

Of the many activities sponsored and encouraged by Y.M.C.A., perhaps the most well-known is the gymnastic instruction, in which there are regular classes for boys and girls, youths, businessmen and married women.

In launching their campaign to raise £17, 000, the Y.M.C.A. is embarking on an ambitious programme aimed at extending and improving the facilities and scope of Y.M.C.A. in the Gisborne district.

A major part of Y.M.C.A. activities is devoted to youth. Pictured here are tournament teams, who recently travelled (the girls to Hutt, boys to Hamilton) to compete in a series of tests, varying from gymnastics and harriers, to prepared and impromptu speeches.
