Catholic Queen Crowned
A most successful queen carnival organised by the Catholic Social Club resulted in the Marist Building Fund being considerably augmented by the funds raised. The winner was Miss Mary Toye, who was crowned at a well-attended and most impressive ceremony at the Poho-o-Rawiri Hall.

Appropriately attired for the task, Mr Reg. Gardiner read the proclamation with astounding aplomb, to the delighted amusement of those present.
Following her crowning, Queen Mary conferred honours on members of the carnival committee. They were Messrs F. Gardner, B. Penny, M. Hyland, A. Toye, R. H. Henderson; Mesdames K. Johnson, J. Parker, V. Murphy, V. Neill; Misses J. Jennings and N. McCarthy.
