Captain and Mrs L. Trevor J. Standen, the new Salvation Army officers at Gisborne. Captain Standen, who replaces Major Briggs, now transferred to Auckland, came to Gisborne from Invercargill.

After 48 years of service, first as a volunteer and later as chief fire officer for the district, Mr J. W. Kane has advised the Gisborne Fire Board that he wishes to retire as from August 21 of this year. Mr Kane joined the brigade in 1908, and except for three years on overseas service in World War I, he has been a member of the brigade ever since.

Mrs Beatrice Lloyd, senior child welfare officer for Gisborne, who is retiring after 30 years' service with the Government. She spent 20 years in dental clinic work before taking up child welfare, has held her position here for the last nine years.

Mr and Mrs Neil Morrow, of 122 Fox Street, who had the very good fortune recently to win £10,000 in an overseas consultation. Mr Morrow is a member of the staff of Merrick Bros. in Grey Street. The lucky investors, who are at present occupying a flat, expect that one of the main uses of the prize will be to provide themselves with a home of their own.
