LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

The Gisborne Province of the League of Mothers and Homemakers was officially wound down at a function held at the Sandown. Most of the remaining 73 local members attended the ceremony and several former Gisborne members returned to be with old friends. The LoM, formed in 1926 by Lady Alice Fergusson, disbanded as membership declined. Young mothers seem to have a host of other options and organisations to join. The final singing of Auld Lang Syne was an emotional moment for many.

Mangapapa & City Branches met at the Bushmere Arms for a combined afternoon tea several weeks prior to the Official Closing Ceremony. Although the League has lost administration the fellowship that has been bonded over the years will ensure they will meet again.
