100 YEARS SERVICE

Four men who have collectively been involved with the Fire Service for 100 years were awarded the United Fire Brigades Association Gold Star medal at a ceremony held in December.

TALL SHIPS 1999

More than 1000 booklets have been sent world wide inviting entrants and visitors to the participate in the Pacific Tall Ships Festival 2000 to be held in the Bay of Islands, Auckland, Tauranga, Gisborne, Napier and Wellington in 1999/2000. Events Gisborne's David Baty, as Co-ordinator, launched the Festival at a small ceremony invited the entries of the Endeavour Replica, The Spirit of NZ and The Spirit of Adventure.

VANESA LOWNDES

The Derby Street Industrial Complex established in 1969 by the Gisborne West Rotary Club with funds raised from the Vanessa Lowndes Trust with the aim of employing, training and supporting people with a disability. This year they were accredited by the NZ Qualifications Authority under the the Education Act 1989 to provide Education and Training. This means that the trainees now have National recognition of their achievements. This accreditation comes after months of very hard, frustrating, stressful times by staff and trainees.

Celebrations for the staff and trainees

20 YEARS SERVICE

Hilary Low, at an afternoon tea at the Donnelly Training Centre, was presented with gifts and cards by staff and clients in recognition of her help and support over the years. Hilary, who began at the Tony Singer Pre School in Kahutia Street, was also presented a certificate from the Chief Executive in Wellington aknowledging her 20 years of service.

SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE

Brent Emmerson (centre) has been sponsored a new Kawasaki KX250 from CGM Motorcycles. Brent's Bridgestone tyres will be supplied by John's Tyres. Graeme Mullicrane's Gisborne Auto Court will assist with his travelling expenses. Brent will be competing in the NZ Moto-cross Championships in the Pro 250 Class in Auckland & Wanganui.
