EASTLAND Duck Race

Gisborne Thistle AFC, the oldest surviving soccer club in this district, organised a fundraising event with a difference. "Racing ducks" were sold and the new owners were invited to watch the race held on the Taruheru River from the Peel Street Bridge to the Marina boat ramp. The winning ducks showed their initiative and racing class when they overtook the main bunch to pip the mob at the post.

The ducks had an equal opportunity to vie for positions.

1st, 2nd & 3rd placings were quite clear cut at the line.
