100km EASTLAND DUATHLON

The Eastland Duathlon the race for serious competitors wishing to test endurance over 100kms. Individual competitors run to Tatapouri, bike to Tokomaru Bay then run up, over "Heartbreaker Hill" to Te Puia Springs. Teams of 4 competitors split the three sections, with a extra change at Tolaga, to make a sprint event for each stage. Race Director Bruce More described this, the 7th Eastland Duathlon, as incident free with the 281 entries contributing to the $1000 donation to the East Coast Helicopter Trust.

The race started at the AMP Building. Teams runners (red numbers) sprinting down Gladstone Road.

Gisborne Individual runners (black numbers) at the Wainui drink station. 460 Peter Moysey finished 5th Open Men 6th Overall. 326 Phil Rowland finished 9th Open Men 10th Overall. 405 Jim Denholm (Napier), a previous race winner, finished 4th Overall and 1st Vetran Men.

No 76 Tony Olsen ( Te Awamutu) the Overall winner (3 hours 47 minutes 22 seconds) about to rehydrate at the drink station manned by Wainui Lions. No 93 Scott Ballance (Wgtn) finished 2nd Overall.
