WA 165
RESTORATION

×

A project demanding commitment and determination by the faithful who turn up every Saturday morning to nibble away at the mountain and also gratitude to the sponsors who share the dream of restoring the only train of its type still in existence. First built in 1897 with a A class overhaul in 1943, a reconstruction begun in 1986 and with a lot more to go.

A new boiler manufactured in Greymouth was fitted out, lagged & covered in the workshop.

×

Because Geoff Jocye could fit through the hole, he laid the firebricks inside the boiler.

×

A busy workshop. Gisborne will benefit from the uniqueness of WA 165
