Maia, Rangatira of Te Ikanui-a-rauru (one of the earliest waaka to visit Tairawhiti) landed at Tawararo below Titirangi (Kaiti Hill) This is the name chosen for the Tairawhiti Polytechnic's new Art Studio Gallery in Cobden Street.
