ACHIEVERS

One Bowl Champion

Gisborne Turanga Host Lions had a cup that was no longer contested so they changed the rules to encourage members to compete for The Past Presidents Trophy (donated by Athol Hutton). Each contestant has one bowl diagonally across the green. The nearest bowl to the cup wins the trophy.

N.Z. Audiologist Society Conference

More than 100 audiologists gathered in Gisborne for their annual conference, a chance to keep up with the latest hearing aid technology and applications. It was organised by Mike Williams, the Audiologist at Gisborne Hospital. After the brain strain it was time to enjoy Gisborne.

Tamarau CWI

The Tamarau Branch of the Country Womens' Institute recently completed two magnificent patch work blankets. Working to the theme of "knit a square to show you care" the blankets are 88 & 96 squares each with a square taking about an hour to knit. Nigel Hendricks accepted the blankets on behalf of Victim Support, an agency that relies on the support of the community.

TOP CADET

John Cook came to Gisborne from Te Aroroa to attend Gisborne Boys High School 6 years ago. He was one of the three who were selected from a shortlist of nine representing the youth of NZ at a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of VE Day to be held in the UK on 8th May.

Dressage

The Gisborne Wairoa Area Pony Club Dressage Team prior to attending the NZ Zone Final Championships held in Hamilton. The squad, consisting of 3 Seniors, 3 Juniors & 2 travelling reserves, did very well finishing 3rd.

NZ Youth Squad

The Maadi Cup, gifted by the President of the Cairo River (Rowing) Club (Egypt) in 1943 to be competed for by NZ Secondary Schools U/16 eights.
