MERCANTILE TENNIS

Just the thing for all you tennis players who wish to have the odd game at a social level. Organised by the Poverty Bay Tennis Association and played on the Plexipave courts in Childers Road. There are two sections one on Tuesday nights and the other on Thursday nights. The courts are well illuminated with floodlights allowing matches to be completed each evening.

The opening night of the Tuesday Competition saw these keen mercantile players bursting to get on with the competition. That's Bill Roberts, Chairman of the Poverty Bay Tennis Assn (3rd from the left) and Mike Owen the Association Executive Officer (8th from the left with yellow lapels) who were the driving force of this competition.

The Thursday night early arrivals on their opening evening. The long shadows were quickly dispersed by the excellent floodlighting. Tennis can now be played in all weather at all hours provided that you have joined the Mercantile League or the Tennis Club.
