CHARITY TRIALS

100 competitors and 215 dogs took part in the annual Poverty Bay Charity Sheepdog Trials at the A&P showgrounds in sizzling temperatures. Kelvin Sadler, head shepherd at Waipaoa Station, won the final run-off with his dog Jed and a 99 point run. 2nd was Merv Utting and Von on 98.75. Merv also won the Open with Von. Thousands of dollars have been distributed to various charities in the district as a result of these trials with proceeds this year going to IHC, CCS and the Gisborne Riding Club for the Disabled.

"C'mon you old tarts. It's hot enough without you making things difficult. Just head for that yard over there and the Boss will shut the gate".
