CHOKERMANS RACE
A visual & exciting event took place at the Raiway Reserve when the East Coast Loggers Club came to town with an aim of lifting the interest & skill levels & also to emphasise the safety aspects needed to compete.
Chris Tuhura - Loggerheads (Polytech Cable logging course) "breaking out" at the end of the obstacle course.
Dale Wilson - (Havard LT)- choker in hand at the tyre, there to slow them down, but these agile loggers just went for it.
Charlie Edwards - (Washington Team) "delimbing" with precision & speed.

The Tairawhiti Polytech have a 1yr course for trainee loggers. The "Loggerheads" are: (from left): Chris Tuhura, Ray Home, Rory McTavish, Fred Te Arel & Herble Osborne.
Tony Vincent competing in the "eye splicing." This event emphasised the skills of constructing the eye with penalty points for time taken & eye size.
Dale Wilson had to start the chainsaw, make 3 cuts (with his hand in the safety glove) before tagging his team mate for the next section. Each team had to watch for skill & safety points.
