Rachael Morris

Hundreds auditioned for the part of Polly Heke in the NZ produced film "Once Were Warriors" and a 10 year old, Rachael Morris of Tolaga Bay, landed the part. Rachael is the youngest of 3 girls and attends Tolaga Bay Area School. Anne Henry read about the auditions and took 16 hopefuls down to Hastings. Don Selwyn of Mortimer's Patch was the auditioner and Anne knew Rachael had the part when she sang. Both she and Rhonda Matete were recalled to Avalon Studios for intense auditioning followed by a 2 week wait to find out if they were successful. Filming took 6 months, culminating in a spectacular Premiere on Broadway, Auckland. Rachael and the other children in the film travelled by limo to the premiere and the poolside party which followed. A very special time for a special young "star" whose dream is to appear on Shortland St.
