With the printing of this magazine the Gisborne Photo News celebrates its 1st birthday. For 12 months we have covered and promoted people and events in the Gisborne area. The first cover was a collage with scenes of our beautiful city and the lucky people who live in it. Issue 2 pictured the part of the freezing works before its demolition and those who had been part of the establishment. Steve and Lynise Craills' wedding photo on Kaiti Hill with Nick's Head as a backdrop graced our 3rd cover and five Girls' High students and hundreds of daffodils in a spring scene in the Waimata Valley became a popular September cover. Cedenco's listing on the Stock Exchange gave us the idea for our 5th issue and a youngster at the A&P Show provided the cover for our first full colour issue in November. Miss Eastland, Heidi Bodle was our Christmas cover-girl and Donna Shanks demonstrated the lure of Gisborne beauties and beaches in January. It was all action on February's cover with an IRB hitting the waves during a surf carnival at Wainui. At a time when the Waihirere Concert Party was helping Dame Kiri celebrate her 50th birthday in England, the Gisborne Girls' and Boys' High cultural group appeared on our 10th cover. Netball ushered in the start of winter sport in Gisborne on issue 11 and now with the All Black trials being held in Gisborne it's a rugby match between Wakefield Marist and Ball & Crawshaw Ngatapa on our anniversary cover. We are most grateful to our loyal advertisers and to the many people who have made contact and let us know what's happening in the community. Our thanks to all who have purchased a copy of the Photo News and given us the opportunity to continue into our second year.
