FARRIERS

The NZ Farriers Championships were held indoors at the Riding Club for the Disabled. The competitors worked against the clock to complete tasks where the winners were those who made the least mistakes.

Cherie Parsons hammers red hot metal into a horse shoe. Cherie came 3rd in the Intermediate, 3rd in the Home Exhibits and teamed up with George Harrop and Gene Crafer to win the Open Clydesdale event beating all the Open competitors.

George Harrop works feverishly to win the Junior Apprentice event where he had 20 mins to shape a shoe to a horse's hoof. He also came 3rd in the Senior Apprentices and was in the winning team in the Open Clydesdale event.

Amid the smoke from the braziers the apprentices assisted by their firemen compete in event 1.

Gene Crafar from Pukekohe had 45 mins to make, fit and nail a shoe onto the horse and make a 2nd shoe. Here he is "seating" this custom made shoe, checking for highs or lows, to ensure a quality fit.

Bruce MacDonald from Dannevirke using a purpose made shoe grip as he concentrates on the correct length for the Job.

Dick Parsons as "fireman" concentrates on the coals leaving the competitor free to make and fit the shoe.
