Horleys Sunshine Coast Body Building Champs

New Zealand Federation of Body Builders Promoter Phil Hope and his lovely wife Julie (above) were in town to set up the first body building Championships in Gisborne with a view to encouraging local enthusiasts to take part. Son of Ivan & Pat Hope, Phil is an ex Ngatapa rugby player who competed in body building contests from 1984-87 and is now involved in the administration and judging of shows. He still trains 5 times a week and takes teams overseas. Phil works in closely with the NZ Sports Drugs Agency to keep drugs out of sport and in doing so receives more support from the Hillary Commision. Training programmes are available at gyms and it is not just for body builders but for those into fitness. There is not room for macho types who act like gorillas. It is a great way to keep kids of the streets and to develop a sense of pride in themselves as well as a focus in life.
