Outrigger CANOES

The Port of Gisborne Regatta was held in ideal conditions to test the skills of all competing teams. All ten canoes were "1990 Hull" designs so that team turn arounds were quicker. The races over 1000m and 500m distances went smoothly.

Laurie Durand, Director of the Waiariki Purea Trust, brought canoes from Rotorua as well as the Rescue Boat which followed the racers all day.
