The Bag Race

The Gisborne Yacht Club held its annual round the Bay race for trailer yachts and Hobie cats in great conditions. The course over approx 17 nautical miles tested the skills in a friendly manner.

Dennis Hall and Brian Wilson In their Hobie cat skipped across the slight chop with one of the twin hulls almost out of the water.

Russell Watton at the helm of his yacht, Farr - bu - lous, was assisted on the day by his crew (from the left) Reuben Miller, Greg Watton, Heather Moult, Sue Watton and Craig Moult.

The race rules set all marks to port at the bouys which created right of way situations. Here Alf Hills with his crew of John Roberts Anne Hills and Nicki Hall In (2857) Mariska is on port tack and must give way to Brian Holmberg and his crew of David Wagner, Robert Wagner and Peter Coppin on (T2663) Fulmar.

Discovery, the Gisborne Yacht Club Westpac Rescue I R B, is a Naiad 5.8 and was crewed by Mark Slade, Damon Slade and Earl Tucker. As well as being on hand for safety reasons they set and recovered the bouys.

Ted Hardy and Gail Lynn took advantage of the ideal conditions to keep up with the leaders, finishing a very close third.
