MONOWAI

HMNZS Monowai is the Royal New Zealand Navy's hydrographic survey ship taking its name from Lake Monowai, a small glacial lake in the south of the South Island. It is one of the most modern vessels of its type, surveying coastal waters to a high standard of accuracy. HMNZS Monowai is very special to Gisborne as it has been adopted by the city and supports local charities in many ways particularly the Riding Club for the Disabled.

Lt. Margaret Stumple and Lt. Paul Truscott inspected members of the Gisborne Sea Cadets during the Monowais visit. Although a time for rest and relaxation, members of the crew were busy with various charities and entertaining on board during the 5 day stay in Gisborne before heading back out to sea and more surveying of coastal waters.
