NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN

The Gisborne Branch of the Na tional Council of Women presented the 1st Kate Sheppard Camelia to Eastwood Hill. An impromptu ceromony was called for when Waingake School children on a field trip and the Taruheru Institute of the ? W I joined with the curator of Eastwood Hill, Gary Clapperton, to plant the hybrid camelia (one of 200 distributed to N ? W 's) There are plans for a Kate Sheppard Camelia Grove to be planted when more of these camelias are available.

Paul Gourlie (left) Chairman of the N Z Education Foundation secured a rare Aorangi plant (Tecomanthe Speciosa) in Whangarei and brought it to Gisborne. Paul praised Cedenco's Waikanae Creek project as a positive move. With Paul are Dean Witters (Cedenco) Jim Wikatu, Cheyanne Kepa and Matene Maraki both pupils of Cobham School.
