Baden Powell Guild

J R H Cooksey who lived in Hawkes Bay instigated a movement of ex Scout and Guide leaders in the Waiapu Area and gave them the name Little John. The local Little John group are Zillah Smith, Sheila Scott, Nancy Nelson and Miss June McGregor. June was invested into the Guild with a small ceremony.

On the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 ?'clock a minutes silence has been observed to remember the fallen. The ceremony marks Armistice Day when the First World War was officially over. The above ceremony took place infront of the Gisborne R S A with Bob Crosby (President, Memorial Club) June Thompson (Sec/Manager, Memorial Club) and lan Flockhart (Secretary, RSA)

As a part of the Suffrage Centennial Celebrations medals were given to women who had made significant contributions to the community. Appropriately these medals were presented by Catherine O'Regan the Assistant Minister of Finance at the present site of the Margaret Sievwright Memorial at Marina Park (pictured below) Sheila Robinson, Muriel Jones, Catherine O'Regan, Yeolland Renner and Janee Sawyer.
