WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS 1893-1993

A procession from Heipipi Park to Marina Park took place in the rain as a part of the Suffrage Day celebrations. There was a brief stop at Peel Street, the original site of the Margaret Sievwright Memorial, to leave symbolic purple and gold bows. Francis Gregory unveiled the Sievwright Plaque followed by the ceremonial planting of 3 Kate Sheppard Camelias which are symbolic of the white camelias given to those M Ps who supported the women's struggle for the right to vote.
