A small field of 29, from Auckland, Rotorua and Gisborne, enjoyed a successful competition with winds gusting up to 30 knots. The most successful local was Andrew Donaldson who placed 8th in the Open Division while Larry Foster and John Smale placed equal 2nd in the Masters Division behind the N.Z. Masters Champion, Brom Throckler of Auckland..

Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the Easter Classic was the response by the local masters to the inclusion of this division. The relaxed atmosphere of this division is evident as Graeme Breckell, Chris Ransley and Don Griffiths watched the first heat jockey for favoured position at the start line.
