The grace and rhythm of horses in motion... it's a sight that has always thrilled the sports-minded public of Poverty Bay. That's why the district took special pride in the selection of Susan Dods and Bruce Hansen to tour the South Island with a team of North Island riders. Susan, aged 18, who is pictured on our cover with her horse, Chevalier, was the youngest member of the group.

The tour was sponsored by the N.Z. Horse Society to promote the sport of jumping under international rules. A South Island team will tour this island next autumn.

Bruce, shown right as his Sports-master clears a jump, was one of the team's most successful riders. He gained six wins in 10 starts.
