The Real Thing
Pupils of the senior Maori Language and Culture Classes at Lytton High School and Waikohu College were given an opportunity to put theory into practice recently when they paid a two-hour visit to the Poho-o-rawiri Marae and Meeting-house, Lytton were hosts and welcomed Waikohu in traditional fashion. After the welcome both classes had explained to them the various aspects of Maoritanga connected with the Marae.

Mrs Gertrude Pewhairangi demonstrates the art of preparing flax for weaving into the various types of baskets and kits used by the women of yesteryear, and today.
Mrs Matilda Henry explains the method of weaving used to obtain the finished articles, namely a kit, piu-piu and cloak.
