Prize-Winning Entries!
A very enjoyable wine and cheese evening was held at the Art Gallery to mark the Gisborne opening of the exhibition of the prize-winning entries in the recent Arts and Crafts Festival, sponsored by the Eastern and Central Savings Bank. The competition was held in Hawke's Bay, with only the actual placed entries being brought on tour. A continuing liaison between commerce and culture (for want of a better word) can only promote an even wider appreciation of the arts.
Notable among the exhibits were this collection of jewellery made from New Zealand gemstones
Gisborne's Christine Houlahan and Eastern and Central's P.R.O. Richard Lemmon pictured with Mrs Houlahan's sculpture, Trip-LSD.
Mr A. G. (Chick) McHugh (bank president) and Mr Colin Pilbrow (Gallery president) were speakers at the exhibition opening.
