Mrs Olive Hale has retired from her position as Field Officer for the Gisborne branch of the Crippled Children Society. She has spent the last 11 years in this demanding job and now looks forward to an easier time in the future. An expert on Chinese soapstone, petit point, tapestry and carved furniture, Mrs Hale will keep up an avid interest in these, and other art works when she opens her art gallery and antique shop.

George G. Skuse, son of Mr and Mrs G. Skuse, 3 Dairymple Road, has obtained his B.Sc. Degree from Victoria University, majoring in geology. George intends going in the near future to Australia to work where there is ample opportunity in this field.

Celebrants of their diamond wedding on April 2 were former sea-captain, Mr Alex Thomson and his wife of 211 Lytton Road. Captain Thomson spent nearly all of his seafaring life along the East Coast until he retired at the age of 80. Congratulations from the Queen and the Governor-General were among the messages received.

Members of the Gisborne Parents Centre organised the making and collection of this box of marvellous toys for young patients of Cook Hospital to play with. Both the large and small soft toys are enough to delight the heart of any child. The three nurses shown with the gifts are Sisters B. Smith, G. Petterson and A. M. Nilon, while in front are Deborah Atkins and Kelly Murphy. At back are Parent Centre representatives Mrs Sue Lorimer with Cam, and Mrs Sharon Bodle.
