One of the top awards in the Guide movement is the Chief Commissioner's Badge and this was presented to Christine Roe of the Mangapapa Girl Guides recently. Christine, who is the daughter of Mr and Mrs B. E. Roe, Gordon Street, is shown receiving it from the Provincial Commissioner, Miss R. Bunt. They are shown with Mrs H. Elliott (captain), and Christine's mother, Mrs Roe (Lieutenant).

Members of the Pickering Street Free. Kindergarten held a very successful shop day at the Kaiti Mall recently. This raised $45 towards kindergarten funds. Attending the busy stall are, from left, Mesdames Fay Duncan, Val Michalik, Dawn Worsnop, Karen Pewhairangi, Sheron Coffey, Val Sagger and Winnie Sheridan.

Don Merton, Fauna Conservation Officer, New Zealand Wildlife Service, Wellington, who was recently awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study the management and propagation of rare and endangered wildlife, has gone to the U.S.A. and U.K. on a four month study tour. Don, who is an ex-Gisborne Boys' High School pupil, is shown with a South Island saddleback, a very rare New Zealand bird which was recently snatched from the brink of extinction when rats invaded its last island refuge off Stewart Island.
