The Man with the Golden Putter

Mr J. H. (Mick) Dobbie, Redmond Street, has been honoured by Precision Golf Forgings, of Australia, with the gift of a gold plated putter for achieving an unique feat, Mr Dobbie, a Poverty Bay Golf Club member, holed-in-one at the Awapuni course last year, and this was the third hole-in-one of Mr Dobbie's long golfing life. Three holes-in-one may be not too unusual but the fact that the most recent one was as a left handed golfer, while the first two (in 1931 and 1952) were as a right handed golfer, is quite remarkable. A natural left hander, Mr Dobbie was forced to play as a right hander in his early days for the obvious reason. Mr Dobbie has the ball and club he used for his hole-in-one last year in his right hand, while in his left hand is the gold plated putter.
